“There is no one style of music, there is no one instrument or set of instruments, that can adequately serve the variety of scriptures, themes and topics to be presented in worship. Fairview needs to be able to employ jazz, traditional organ, contemporary Christian, gospel, bluegrass, world music, and other musical styles and instruments with equal ability, so that the planning teams can choose the best music for each Sunday.”
Fairview Presbyterian Church is seeking someone to lead a music program that can help the church continue to realize these words from our Worship Vision.
This part-time position will work closely with the Worship Team and Pastor to plan music for our Sunday morning worship service (and occasional mid-week services), which will include playing piano for congregational singing and choir pieces. Ability to play the organ is a plus. The Music Director will lead and play for the choir on Sunday mornings and at weekly rehearsals.
The Music Director will be an important part of the creative team for worship. They will be excited about planning Christian worship, bringing ideas for a variety of music to match each service’s message and theme. They will be able to play a variety of styles of music, and when needed, bring other musicians to Fairview to enhance the music for that service. It will be the responsibility of the Music Director to arrange for guest musicians as needed, using the funds budgeted to this purpose.
Fairview Presbyterian is a church that is beginning a new chapter in its life and ministry by focusing on supporting and serving our neighborhood, with a special emphasis on mental health. We are proudly progressive and inclusive, and eager to offer a modern approach to Christian faith. The ideal candidate will share this vision and be excited about the possibilities offered.
